The Power of Forgiveness, Ken Whitaker to speak at Aldersgate United Methodist Church

"Murder By Family” author Kent Whitaker is coming to Rochester. Listen to Kent explain how he forgave the killer of his family – his own son!

Kent Whitaker’s story will be aired on August 22 on CBS’ “48 Hours Mystery.” His inspiring story has also been featured on the “Oprah Winfrey Show”, and ABC’s “20/20.” “Murder By Family” hit the New York Times Best Seller List within weeks of its release last fall.

That fateful night of December 10, 2003 will be forever etched in Kent’s memory. A former construction executive from Houston, Kent’s story is one of horrible loss and betrayal. He and his older son survived, but his wife and younger son died when all four were gunned down in their home. But the real horror hit two days later when his surviving son fell under suspicion for having arranged the murders. His son was eventually convicted and sentenced to death. Kent made a decision to use this tragedy to find peace and to help others who are suffering.

But the crime isn’t the real story. The real story is the importance of faith in the midst of trials and the power of forgiveness to heal deep wounds.  People who are searching for ways to forgive without forgetting will find Kent’s remarks full of encouragement and understanding.

On September 12, 2009 Kent Whitaker is telling his story of Hope and forgiveness at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Avenue Greece, between Northgate Plaza and Latta Road.  This FREE program begins at 7:00 P.M.  It is open to everyone. Questions and answers and a book signing will follow.

Mr. Whitaker will also speak at 9:30 and 11:00 A.M. Sunday Worship Services on Sept. 13. A potluck dinner will be served following the 11:00 service.  ALL are welcome!
