INTERIM ASSOCIATE PASTOR

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

            First Presbyterian Church, Santa Fe, New Mexico is seeking an Interim Associate Pastor to share in the total pastoral ministry with an Interim Pastor, Head of Staff; to work specifically in areas of youth ministry, family ministry and the enhancement of spiritual life, mission and fellowship of the larger congregation.  The church is located in Downtown Santa Fe, a multi-cultural, open and accepting community in the Southwest United States, which is renowned for its contribution to the Arts, its Spanish and Native American history and reputation as a cross-cultural tourist destination.

            The congregation is approximately 500 in membership, ecumenical partners with the Cathedral Basilica of St. Frances of Assisi and Holy Faith Episcopal congregations, and a draw for visitors year-round.  It is known for the quality of its worship and music throughout the region.  First Presbyterian has just completed a comprehensive renovation and rebuilding of its 70 year old building, paid off the mortgage, with a 10% challenge to mission and a new organ which is currently being installed.

 

            The church is seeking an Interim Associate Pastor who is an ordained Presbyterian Minister, or has completed the requirements for ordination and is just beginning their ministry of Word and Sacrament, and is willing to serve and to learn with energy, imagination and love.  The Interim Associate will serve for approximately 2 to 2 ½ years as the link between the Interim Head of Staff and the Permanent Head of Staff who will be elected following the interim time.  The primary tasks will be to develop a strong ministry with youth and their families and to be part of a pastoral team working to enhance all aspects of life and witness of this congregation and its members.

Director of Alumni/ae and Church Relations, CRCDS

Under the general supervision of the VPIA, the Director will work to develop strategies that will effectively engage alumni and congregational churches, to include judicatories, represented by alumni and current CRCDS students. The Director will consider him/herself part of a fundraising team giving priority to those initiatives that promote annual giving and the school’s reputation; conducting all activities conscious of the need to consistently cultivate current and potential donors.  The Director will also be responsible for integrating the alumni program into the life of CRCDS.

 Qualifications:

 

      • Graduate degree from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School preferred, undergraduate degree required.
      • Demonstrated success in program management, event planning; experience with college or university alumni/volunteer programs desirable.
      • Excellent written and oral communications skills
      • Excellent interpersonal skills
      • Determination to follow through on assignments
      • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required

Job Posting for Part-Time Position (10 hours/week)

Mission:  The Director of Christian Education Ministry is called to demonstrate a desire for children to know God’s love, assist parents and congregation in keeping promises spoken in the baptismal covenant, nurture teaching staff in a way that enables teachers to grow spiritually while they are teaching, welcome children in Sunday School, both children of the church and visitors, by developing a relationship with Sunday School children and their parents, and welcome children in worship.

 Position:  A part-time, salaried position averaging 8-10 hours per week across 11 months, with the remainder of the year as unpaid leave to be scheduled on a flexible basis.  The weekly commitment includes an average of three Sunday mornings per month.  Salary is approved by the Session.  Responsibilities are carried out on behalf of children and youth, nursery through high school, in coordination with the Christian Education Committee of New Life Presbyterian Church in accordance with the policies and directions of the Session and Christian Education Committee.

 

Accountability:  Accountable to the pastor as head of staff and indirectly to the Session and Christian Education Committee.  Annual evaluation will be conducted by the pastor, Session Personnel Committee and a member of the Christian Education Committee.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Be present and engaged with children, families and Sunday School teachers an average of three Sundays per month (9:30 a.m.12 noon) over the course of the year (including Summer Sundays “one-room schoolhouse”).  Provide direct support to Sunday School teachers and children including getting to know teachers and children, acknowledging teachers’ and children’s participation and gifts, and providing safety/behavioral support to children.  Introduce visiting families to nursery and staff, Sunday School teachers and classrooms.  Assist in last-minute staffing needs as the need arises.  Be present in worship through Children’s Message.  Participate in church family fellowship during Coffee Hour.

 

Plan, present and pray with children gathered for Children’s Message during worship one Sunday per month.

 

Plan and prepare Bible-based children’s resources (clipboard activities) for children to use during worship on monthly Family Worship Sundays.  Assist in identifying children to share their gifts during worship.

 

Together with Christian Education Committee, review and select curriculum to be implemented in Sunday School.  Develop supplemental curriculum resources as needed (i.e. Summer Sunday School “one-room schoolhouse curriculum).

 

Assist with the Christian Education Committee in recruiting, training, providing curriculum overview and on-going resources and supplies (resource room inventory and maintenance) to Sunday School teaching staff.  Participate in yearly teacher orientation and follow-up transition meetings.

 

Act as link to Presbytery by sharing resources and continuing education information with Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, families and Christian Education Committee.  Participate in Presbytery’s “brown bag lunches” for Christian Educators.

 

Inform congregation of children’s ministry activities and resources through the annual Sunday School brochure, monthly Herald article, weekly bulletin insert, bulletin board postings and displays (including children’s Sunday School projects).

 

Maintain up-to-date Christian Education calendar, budget expenditures record, forms required by New Life Presbyterian Safe Spaces Policy (staff volunteer forms, children’s Sunday School registration forms), class registers, attendance statistics, and visitor follow-up mailings.  

 

Participate in the planning of and on-site support of related children’s ministries including Vacation Bible School, youth group activities, neighborhood outreach (e.g. Soul Singers) and special event family programs within New Life and with linkage churches.

 

Celebrate Christian Education Ministries by, together with the Christian Education Committee, planning and participating in Sunday School Teacher Orientation, “Rally Day”/”Jubilee Sunday” (beginning of Sunday School year), Christmas Pagaent, Teacher Recognition, and Children’s Sunday.

 

Communicate on a regular basis with the pastor and the Christian Education Committee by participating in monthly Committee meetings.
