Position Description:  Children's Religious Education Leader

Position Summary:

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandiagua, NY is a 70-member congregation looking for a creative, dynamic and spiritually progressive person to develop and lead programming for our school age children (approximately K-early Jr. High) on Sunday mornings, September to June.  This will be an attractive position for individuals who enjoy working directly with children and helping us think creatively about what "Sunday School" can be.  Applicants are not required to be practicing Unitarian Universalists but must be willing to develop programming that helps our children develop a Unitarian Universalist identity and learn our Unitarian Universalist principles.  There are minimal administrative duties and limited volunteer recruitment responsibilities; we want this person to spend most of his or her time developing and directly leading programming.  While a background in UU religious education, childhood development or primary education is an asset, it is not required.  We are also excited about candidates with background in areas such as theater, storytelling, music, art or homeschooling.

The start date for this position is September 1, 2010.

ACCOUNTABILITY and OVERSIGHT:

This position is accountable to the Board of Trustees and the congregation's statement of annual religious education objectives.  This position will work collaboratively with the parish minister, Youth group leader and a lay RE support team (if desired).

This position is responsible for oversight of primary and early middle school age children only.  Other staff will oversee our Pre-K childcare and  our youth group programming.  On Sundays when this staff member is unavailable, he or she is responsible for identifying the volunteers and creating the programming for that day.  The number of Sundays off will be worked out on an individual basis during the hiring process.

HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This position is approximately 1/5 time, September to June, with a stipend of $3200.  As the program grows we are committed to expanding the hours and pay.  This position is non-exempt.  This position is not eligible for benefits.

Please send cover letter and resume to Val Doyle: 9645 Bean Hill Road, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472; ivdoyle@rochester.rr.com.  If you have questions, Val can also be reached at 585-624-7736.  We encourage candidates to learn more about us by visiting our website at www.uucc.us.

We will receive resumes until August 6, 2010, but will begin interviewing candidates as early as July 16.  A background check and references are required.
