In 1922 Helen Barrett Montgomery invited those gathered at the North Baptist Convention to “learn to stand shoulder to shoulder in the cooperative prosecution of great tasks of the kingdom.” Over the years lay and clergy have stood together in ministry, cried on each other’s shoulder, in times of trial and indifference we have given each other the cold shoulder. But have we stood shoulder to shoulder – not letting anything get past us, drawing strength from each other, holding each other accountable as we held each other up?
This year at the Helen Barrett Montgomery Conference we will honor the legacy of Helen and struggle with the challenge that she placed before a divided church over 80 years ago: Challenges that have yet to be met, Challenges that invite us to frame our conversations on this day, and Challenges that can give us a vision of how the ministry of the 21st Century Church can minister with integrity, passion, justice and inclusion of all who seek to serve.
Join us for the celebration of the legacy of Helen Barrett Montgomery. Enter into this opportunity to explore ministry, integrity, passion, justice and inclusion for this century. Learn with us to stand shoulder to shoulder.
Joyfully,
